A REVIEW is being considered to see whether there were failings after a mentally-ill woman stabbed a commuter hours after warning a support worker that she “wanted to kill someone”.

Sarah-Jane Hall stabbed Eden James close to Southampton Central Station, just hours after telling a worker from the Dimensions charity of her intentions to murder someone.

Hall, 33, from Bourne Road, has now been detained under the mental health act after she pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

Winchester Crown Court heard she suffered from schizophrenia, learning difficulties, Down’s syndrome, paranoia and depression.

She was being supported by Dimensions, who gave her 11 hours worth of support each week.

A spokesman for Dimensions said she was on a waiting list to be seen by a mental health nurse after being discharged by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust three months before the incident.

Before the stabbing, Hall had told the support worker from Dimensions of her intentions, but nothing was done, despite the support worker calling more senior members of staff for advice.

The Dimensions spokesman told the Daily Echo the organisation disagreed with the decision to discharge her. She was then on a waiting list to be seen by mental health teams.

“We supported Ms Hall with practical aspects of her life such as shopping, cooking and cleaning for 11 hours each week. Ms Hall was on a waiting list to be seen by mental health teams.

“Dimensions’ primary concern is always the well-being and safety of the people we support and the wider public.

“Dimensions’ operational staff members are well trained and make a positive difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism.

"We take real pride in the quality of our personalised support to all our clients.”

A spokesperson for Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust said they were “concerned” about the incident and that they are considering a review about what happened.

She said: “We were concerned to learn about this incident and the agencies involved are looking closely at this case. Due to patient confidentiality we cannot comment on the care received by an individual.”
