THOUSANDS of people packed through the gates of a Hampshire festival to see folk superstar KT Tunstall and rock legends 10cc.

Katy Sang classics from her recently released fifth full-length studio album Kin alongside classics from the back catalogue included Suddenly I See.

Recent years have seen high-profile performances from rock and pop artists, including James Blunt, Wilko Johnson and Lightning Seeds.

Despite the weather, punters queued for up to two and half hours to get into the ground with people stuck completely deep in the mud and traffic backing onto the A32.

On Wednesday, festival organisers urged people to put off turning up to the festival for a day due to the downpours and muddy conditions.

However, organisers have said the show must go on which has completely shocked locals and the festival community.

A comedy line-up for the stage was also be topped by Tom Walker, better known as Internet sensation Jonathan Pie, the frustrated news reporter known for venting in unguarded “off-camera” rants.

He will appear in a Q&A session to talk through why he does what he does, the inspiration behind the character and all things politics.

The festival which brings several million pounds to the local economy every year is run by Gosport Councillor Peter Chegwyn.

Talking to the echo, Councillor Chegwyn said: "Despite the weather and having heaven and earth in terms of mud, the show must go on.

"The festival has grown rapidly from being in the the backstage of a community centre to a successful festival which has coped.

"In many ways we are returning to our roots with a very strong folk line-up which will appeal to the many regulars who come year after year as well as our new generation of fans."

The Wickham festival is expected to attract more than 20,000 people this weekend until Sunday, August 6.
