WHEN the video game industry began reaching homes, Hampshire played a vital role.
In the early 1990s, Nintendo handled their pricing, distribution, and even a helpline from Eastleigh.
Those working in the call centre were trained for two months before being permitted to handle any of the 2,000 calls which came in every day.
Gamers from up and down the country would be eager to speak with one of the team to get the latest tips and cheats for their Nintendo-based games, including Super Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda.
In 1995, following a recession in the video games market, the offices in Eastleigh was closed.
