IT WAS a night of Oscars fun that could not have escaped the attention of anyone nearby on Saturday.

The annual Lymington Carnival was a noisy and colourful parade through the streets of Pennington and Lymington.

Residents donned their glad rags and fancy dress costumes for the event, which had the theme of The Oscars.

Local groups that decorated floats and dressed up for the occasion included the 1st and 9th Lymington Beavers, the Lymington Sea Scouts, the Lawrence Boys' Club, the All Saints and junior church Sunday school, and the Spitfires Eastleigh Scout Band.

The parade was followed by the first Lymington Live. This saw local bands and artists playing live at the pubs and bars in Lymington and Pennington during the evening and almost every bar in town had live music on Saturday night.

The artists included the Blackberry Jam Band, Mike Ricketts, James Murray, The Fazers, Streebeck, Turning Blues and the Pure Funk Dancers.
