THERE was a definite lack of magic in the air in Fareham when the town's cinema double booked tickets for the new Harry Potter film premiere, leaving scores of fans upset.
A computer error at the Apollo Cinema meant dozens of extra customers had to be turned away for the late night showing of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, some finding people already in their seats as they went into the theatre.
Frustrated fans told of their disappointment, though said because it was the final showing last Friday night at 8.15pm, luckily there were not too many children among the turned-away crowd.
A spokesman for Apollo Cinemas said a computer error had led to the cinema being overbooked, but added that only about 50 people had been sold double-booked seats.
He added that those turned away had been given vouchers to entitle them to see the film next time for free, and that though disappointed people had realised it was a mistake and very few had actually complained.
He added: "This is the only time this has happened and I can assure everyone it will not be happening again."
