A MAN was recovering today after being beaten by a gang during the early hours.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, was left with severe injuries that were first thought to be life threatening after he was attacked in Southampton around 2am.
The gang, including boys aged 13, 14 and 17 and two men aged 29, struck outside a commercial premises in Upper Banister Street in the Bedford Place area of the city.
Doctors at Southampton General Hospital where the victim is currently being treated have since told police that the man's injuries are not as severe as first thought.
The scene was this morning cordoned off while forensic examinations were carried out.
Four people have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and are currently being interviewed by detectives.
