IT'S been hailed as the jewel in the crown of the Southampton economy.
And now the Southampton Harbour Hotel has thrown open its doors after a construction project lasting two years.
The £25m development, which has created 120 new jobs, will introduce a new concept five-star luxury to the marina and city dominating the city.
It has a super-yacht inspired design with 85 bedrooms, which cost £185 or more per night.
Simon Maguire, general manager of the new Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa, said: "To see the venue come to live is extremely rewarding.
"We have had fantastic support from business people alike and a great opening response.

Mike Warren, managing director of Harbour Hotels said: “We are thrilled to unveil our spectacular new Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa development at Ocean Village, introducing five star luxury to the marina.
"Attracting tourism and providing a number of fantastic dining experiences, an indulgent spa and Southampton’s first destination rooftop bar for locals to enjoy, we are very excited to officially open our doors.”
Councillor Simon Letts, leader of Southampton City Council, said: “This top-end venue at Ocean Village is certainly set to become one of the most unique destinations in the UK.
"The yacht-inspired design draws on our maritime heritage and is an example of the high-quality construction we welcome in Southampton."
Mark Baulch, head of policy & representation at the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce said: "With thousands of tourists enjoying the sights and attractions of the City, it will be good for all of the tourist economy, from retailers, bars and restaurants, to museums, gardens and theme parks to have the addition of this hotel to the current great offering.
"Southampton can cater for all tastes and price points when looking for somewhere to stay.
"Add to this the continued growth of the Cruise market which creates additional investment opportunities in the City and the opening of this hotel reinforces the message that Southampton is a great place to visit as well as to live, work, study and invest in."
The new hotel boosts jetty-concept restaurant on the ground floor will provide quality food led by chef Alex Aitken with a philosophy of “fresh, seasonal and local”, expect fantastic seafood and an eclectic wine list.
Meanwhile, on the first floor, an events space for weddings, functions, and events is on offer featuring glass walls to make the most of the marina views.
The top floor has a new luxury rooftop bar, kitchen, and club called HarBar on 6th which will be open until late with a weekly calendar of live music and DJs.
The hotel will also boast a range of luxury facilities including an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy pool and relaxation areas, with Southampton residents being given full access to the hotel’s facilities.
A cinema on the ground floor will also showcase daily screenings of the latest films and cult classics.
