THE people in charge of allowing a Spitfire on to a Southampton roundabout in a bid to bring the city a "wow" factor have delayed making a decision on whether to give the scheme the go-ahead until next month.
Business and community representatives who sit on the Southampton Partner-ship have asked for more information on the planning and management of the project.
Now they look set to meet on August 2, when they will decide whether to spend £235,000 from the South East England Development Agency on the scheme.
Conservative Councillor John Hannides, the council's Cabinet member for leisure and culture, gave a presentation to the partnership members during the private meeting. He said that following the placement of a Spitfire from the Solent Sky Museum on the roundabout by the De Vere Hotel for an hour last Monday morning he had received many supportive responses from members of the public.
The Second World War fighter plane was designed and built in Southampton by R J Mitchell, chief designer for the Supermarine Company in Woolston.
