A DEVELOPER has unveiled plans to build a community ice rink on a derelict plot of land in Southampton.
Colin Warburg set out his vision for the scheme on land owned by Southampton City Council in St Mary's to residents last night.
The council is considering a number of bids for 60 to 64 St Mary's Road, a plot surrounded by advertising boards east of the Charlotte Place roundabout. The council will decide to whom it will sell the plot next Monday.
Mr Warburg, one of the bidders, presented his plans to the annual meeting of the Maytree Residents' Link group last night.
The Daily Echo was denied entry to the meeting.
The city's Banister Park rink closed in 1988, with successive attempts to build a replacement failing to get off the ground.
A recent report by consultants suggested a 1,000 to 1,500-seater ice rink should now be built in the city, although not necessarily in the city centre.
It recommended Stoneham Way Sports Ground off Stoneham Lane in Swaythling.
