I JUST saw the result of the city of culture 2021 vote, which went to Coventry, and wondered why Southampton did not apply.
We must have stood a chance with the biggest collection of student flats in any city; also we must have more eating places than London, not to mention being top of the league for beggars and rough sleepers.
Of course we mustn’t forget the crowning glory – the sad, dilapidated royal pier, which must be a real eye opener to all the passengers leaving on numerous cruise ships.
Come on Southampton, put in for it next time. Maybe try a different name – possibly ‘Studenthampton’. We must stand a chance.
