POLICE are to investigate a Hampshire school whose former management was criticised in a damning report.
The inquiry by Hampshire Constabulary detectives comes in the wake of a confidential council probe into Applemore College that heavily censured former principal Frank Callaghan for wasting resources.
The report claimed he had also failed to clearly disclose his links with two firms he had insisted the school hire for services. It also criticised him for taking pupils out of classes and using college admin staff to do mailshots for Solent Educational Ltd, of which he was a director.
Hampshire County Council failed to pass the report to police because officials did not think there was enough evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
However, detectives will now investigate whether any crimes were committed.
