DEVELOPERS hoping to create new flats in Southampton have been knocked back as its plans would result in a “poor standard of living” for tenants.

It was hoped that a dwelling in Cromwell Road would be changed into a three-bedroom and one two-bedroom flats with garden.

Among its reasons for rejecting the plans, Southampton City Council said: “The floor areas of the proposed units would be very cramped and sub-standard in size when compared to the national technical housing standards.

“Although these standards are not adopted by the council, this is a strong indication that the quality of the housing being provided would be of a poor standard.”
