COUNCILS across Hampshire have launched a 'name and shame' list of grubby food outlets.
Winchester, Eastleigh and Gosport are pioneering a county-wide initiative to improve safety.
A 'score on the door' system will rate hygiene at all food businesses, from restaurants to pubs and sandwich bars to takeaways.
The ratings - excellent, satisfactory or unsatisfactory - will be made public on a website and the business can even display a certificate showing how it has fared.
Currently there are 19 businesses in the three districts rated unsatisfactory.
That includes the main kitchen at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital which made the headlines in the Daily Echo yesterday after a city council report exposed poor hygiene standards, including a food server seen licking fingers while serving meals.
The scheme was officially launched at Hampshire Farmers' Market, just days after Winchester City Council prosecuted a third food premises in as many months.
Fines have been levied on O'Neills and The Royal Oak, as well as Chinese restaurant Charles House Fusion.
