A WOMAN who threw herself off the Itchen Bridge in Southampton was rescued by a fisherman.
The 20-year-old, who had been drinking, was spotted on the wrong side of the railings on the 100ft high bridge on Sunday night.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire police said the woman took her shows off and threw them off the bridge, then downed her drink.
She then jumped into the River Itchen, where she was found treading water by a fisherman at 11.20pm.
Despite not injuring herself in the fall, the woman was taken to Southampton General hospital as a precaution and also to assess her mental health.
Solent Coastguard sent a lifeboat to the scene but it was not required.
