A DAY of medieval entertainment in mark a historic Hampshire anniversary has been cancelled because of the floods in Gloucester.
The event, on September 8, had been planned to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Lymington's town fair and charter market.
Still run every Saturday, the market draws large numbers of shoppers and an income of £130,000 a year for the town council.
The council had contracted re-enactment company Historical Promotions of Okehampton to stage the event.
But mayor Pauline Elsworth said: m"Lots of their members live in the Gloucester area and were flooded out. Their homes were affected. They lost costumes and equipment."
She added that the company offered to put on a scratch event featuring historical events through the ages, but that did not fit in with the planned medieval theme.
The council declined that offer and decided to run the event next year, when Historical Promotions had recovered.
