ANIMAL contests have been scrapped at this year's Alresford Show because of foot-and-mouth fears.
The recent outbreak of the livestock disease in Surrey has forced organisers to cancel the cattle, sheep, pigs and goats sections.
However, if restrictions on moving livestock are lifted in time, a smaller number of animals could go on display at the show on September 1.
Chairman Charlie Corbett said: "It's a great shame."
Alternative attractions will include a donkey derby, children's pet show and horse displays.
There will also be craft and trade stalls and displays of vintage farm machinery.
The show starts at 9am. For tickets and information, call the booking office on 08700 115007.
