AS they nervously opened the dreaded envelopes, shrieks of joy from students soon filled the corridors of Fareham College in one of the college's most successful years.

With four top A grades to her name, it was tears of joy for Emma Gregory as she revealed her outstanding success. Her mother Linda was there to pick up her own A in her psychology making them the college's most successful mum and daughter team.

Star pupil Emma was speechless after discovering her fantastic results, with As in psychology, English language, communication studies and sociology.

The 18-year-old from Stubbington said: "I am really, really excited. I just cannot believe it, I got Bs in my mocks so this is just brilliant. I am now going on to study criminology at Southampton University."

Linda, 43, said: "Today is all about Emma. I am so proud of her and she really deserves it because she has worked so hard. We have both really enjoyed studying together, even though it has been hard work."

Fareham College saw a 93 per cent pass rate in A-level results, 69 per cent of those gaining A-Cs, an increase of 15 per cent on last year.

Speaking about Emma's success, Nigel Duncan, vice-principal of Fareham College, said that achieving four As was outstanding.

He said: "Emma's performance just demonstrates her commitment to her studies and how hard she has worked to achieve these amazing results. I am extremely proud of our students.

"The staff and students have worked extremely hard to achieve these amazing results, which with even better advanced results overall than last year, establishes Fareham College as a first class provider in south-east Hampshire."
