MOTORISTS on the M3 are facing huge delays after police closed the southbound carriageway following a serious crash on the motorway.
Police closed the southbound stretch of the motorway following a collision between a number of vehicles which caused serious damage to the barrier of the central reservation.
Hampshire police have said one lane of the southbound carriageway would be opened after the damage was cleared, but they were unable to confirm the number of vehicles involved in the crash.
The crash happened between junctions eight and nine of the Hampshire motorway at around 1.10pm this afternoon.
Major delays are also expected on the northbound stretch after the damaged barrier was knocked into the right hand lane of the two lane carriageway.
"The second lane will be closed northbound until it can be repaired," the police spokeswoman added.
The spokeswoman added that only two people had suffered minor injuries in the crash.
