HAMPSHIRE has today been issued with a health warning as the number of bites from ticks in the county has rocketed.

One bite from the tiny blood-sucking insect can pass on Lyme Disease, leaving victims at risk of becoming blind or paralysed.

Health chiefs have put the county on tick alert after it was revealed that it suffered more outbreaks of Lyme Disease than anywhere else in the country.

Last year almost 220 cases of Lyme Disease were reported in Hampshire - three times more than in neighbouring counties.

Dog walkers and ramblers who use the countryside have been urged to take extra precautions following the rise.
