The wait was finally over for thousands of Hampshire youngsters yesterday as their GCSE results arrived.
Across the county there were howls of delight accompanied by a few tears of despair as teenagers ripped open their letters to find out what they had got.
As a whole the region once again improved on last year's performance of 61.2 per cent getting grades A* to C in five or more GCSEs.
As well as the individual performances, there were also moving stories of youngsters who had overcome adversity to get the grades they wanted.
It is now the 19th year in succession that GCSE grades have improved, with across the UK the overall pass mark hitting 63 per cent.
