A POPULAR Saints fan who died when his car ploughed into a telegraph pole was more than two-times above the legal drink-drive alcohol limit, an inquest has heard.
Southampton Coroner's Court heard how the last hour of James Davison's life still remained a mystery and that there were no witnesses to the horrific crash just yards from the Langley Tavern on Lepe Road.
The court was told the 24-year-old Esso Fawley welder had been playing in a pool competition and drinking with friends at the Hampshire Yeoman in Blackfield on the night of his death.
It is thought he left on foot to go home before having some food and driving off in his Peugeot car.
However just minutes after getting into the vehicle it came off the road, turned onto its side before striking an electricity cable support pole.
A verdict of accidental death was returned by Southampton's Coroner.
