A HAMPSHIRE grandfather is today celebrating after scooping £16,000 in the Daily Echo's Find the Ball competition.
Retired postal worker Michael Cavell hit the jackpot by correctly predicting where the ball was hidden in last Saturday's competition.
Mr Cavell and his wife Sandra now plan to spend their windfall celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary next year.
However with two daughters, four grandchildren and a fifth on the way, Mr Cavell says he also expects to share at least some of the wealth with his ever-growing family.
Mr Cavell, from Sholing, said: "I'm completely surprised by the win. I've been doing the competition for a few years now, and though I've won small prizes before in the past, I've never won anything like this much.
"I really just pick the spots where I think the ball is hidden by random.I guess sometime just guessing is not a bad thing."
To be in with a chance of winning the jackpot, which this week stands at £6,000 with a runner's up prize of £1,000, see Saturday's Daily Echo.
