BURGLARS disturbed the occupants of a Hampshire home twice in one night as they made off with a "substantial" haul from the property.
The residents of the house, in West End Road, Hedge End, were awoken at 1am and again at 5am on Thursday morning.
On the first occasion they did not spot anything suspicious and went back to sleep, but the second time they awoke a person was seen running from the rear of the property, close to the junction with Chalk Hill.
During the night burglars broke into a detached garage and stole gardening equipment and other items.
The back garden was also cleared of garden furniture, and an unsuccessful attempt was made to enter the house through a kitchen window.
Two petrol lawnmowers were stolen along with a leaf-blower, an electric drill, fishing rods, a barbecue and food and drink.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the West End Road area that morning to get in touch.
