A MAN who conned £1,000 out of an unsuspecting elderly Hampshire resident is being hunted by police.

The 80-year-old woman handed over the cash after being approached near to her home, in Duttons Road, Romsey.

She was walking along nearby Princes Road on morning when a blue coloured Ford Transit van pulled up alongside her.

The van driver told the pensioner he had previously carried out work for her, and that she might have a problem with her drains because he had also been working on a neighbour's property.

When they had returned to the woman's home, the man, described as white, in his 30s and well spoken, said the necessary repairs would cost around £1,000.

He said he needed the money immediately, so the elderly lady went to the bank and withdrew the money.

When she got back to her house she gave the cash to the man, who has short curly dark hair, a rounded face and is approximately 5ft 8ins tall, but he then ran away.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, saw a man or vehicle matching the description in the area or in suspicious circumstances, to come forward.
