A DRIVER was over the drink-drive limit when he killed his partner's father in a road accident in the New Forest.

Alan Haywood was a passenger in a VW Golf when it crashed and overturned near Fordingbridge in January.

Father of one Mr Haywood, 48, of Waverley Road, Fordingbridge, died from head injuries.

Michael Legg, 28, has admitted causing his death by driving without due care and attention when over the drink-drive limit.

Southampton Crown Court heard he had a reading of 123 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood - the maximum is 80.

Legg, of Wessex Close, Chippenham, who also admitted not having insurance, was bailed until September 13.

Defence lawyer James Newton-Price said Legg's partner was expecting their child in October and he was suffering from psychological and physical problems as a result of the accident.

The prosecution accepted his plea of not guilty to causing his death by dangerous driving and offered no evidence on that count.
