THE Winchester in Bloom contest has put on a fine display - despite gardens enduring the wettest June and July on record.
Jane Campbell, of Southwick Close, Harestock, won the award for best private front garden.
In the private gardens section, the other winners were: Mr and Mrs P Newman, of Mountbatten Court, Andover Road, hanging basket; Lin Meadham, of Bereweeke Avenue, Weeke, window box or container; Chantelle Wilson, of Warren Road, Winnall, patio or balcony; Shirley Robinson, of Warren Road, Winnall, entrance; Mr and Mrs Cross, of Bereweeke Road, Weeke, individual planting within a sheltered housing complex.
William Tasker, of Rowlings Road, Weeke, won best new entry.
George Turner, of Bereweeke Avenue, Weeke, won a special award; Chantelle Wilson, of Warren Road won best overall for horticultural excellence.
In the commercial section, winners were Bridget Kimber from Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services, Moorside Road, Winnall, frontage; Tim Hore, from The Golden Lion, Alresford Road, hanging basket.
Salvatore La Gumina, from The Old Market Inn, The Square, won the best pub/hotel/restaurant display and best overall for horticultural excellence.
In the children's competition, awards were won by Lois Rumis, 11, from Stanmore Primary; Nathan Schofield, six, from Harestock Primary and Harry Mears, four, from All Saints Primary, Highcliffe.
