A HAMPSHIRE yachtsman is celebrating after hitting the 100-day mark in his bid to become the first disabled person to sail solo round the Great Britain.

Quadriplegic Geoff Holt set off from Hamble in his 15ft specially modified trimaran in May, and has since sailed clockwise round the country to Felixstowe in Suffolk.

The trip was originally intended to take Geoff, who is paralysed from the chest down, around 60 days, but the sprint has turned into a marathon due to bad weather.

The 41-year-old from Shed-field, near Fareham, sailed from Grimsby in Lincolnshire to Wells-Next-The-Sea in Norfolk on Sunday.

Yesterday he sailed a 30-mile leg to Felixstowe.

Today Geoff was due to embark on a 45-mile dash across the Thames estuary to Ramsgate in Kent.
