AN HISTORIC ship featured in hit film series Pirates of The Caribbean has run in to troubled waters just weeks before its scheduled appearance at Southampton Boat Show.

HMS Bounty, which appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean Two and Three, arrived in Torbay advertised as Jack Sparrow's flagship The Black Pearl.

But it was labelled a fake by an eagle-eyed fan of the swashbuckling movies and it turned out the three-masted vessel had only appeared as merchant vessel The Edinburgh Trader in the films.

The ship is due to feature at Southampton Boat Show in September and organisers say they have only ever advertised it as appearing in the trilogy and the 1960 film Mutiny on the Bounty.

A spokesman said: "We have never advertised it as the Black Pearl, it has always been as HMS Bounty and a ship that featured in Pirates Of The Caribbean."
