ARMY aircraft crews are gearing up for their first ever flying appearance at the Romsey Show.

Horses and helicopters are set to be the main attraction at this year's show after traditional events with cows, pigs and sheep had to be cancelled due to foot and mouth disease restrictions.

In addition to the hundreds of horse competitions, including new classes for retired racehorses and the return of the popular scurry championship, there will be a static display of four helicopters from the Historic Aircraft Flight and a flypast by the Blue Eagles helicopter display team.

The aircraft from the Army Air Corps, at Middle Wallop, will be celebrating 50 years since formation and its displays this year are also dedicated to the memory of those who died in the Falklands War 25 years ago.

Although used to appearing at events including the Biggin Hill Air Fair and the Red Bull Air Race, it will be the first time the AAC has taken part in the local show. Other highlights include a new food show with celebrity chefs and a farmers' market.

Tickets for the show, at Broadlands Park from 8am to 6pm on Saturday, September 8, are available online until September 3, and at local outlets until September 7. For more information visit www.romseyshow.co.uk.
