PUBS and clubs across Southampton have proved they have stubbed out smoking for good - with none caught flouting the law since the introduction of the national ban.
City council chiefs have carried out more than 1,600 spot checks on businesses during the past eight weeks in their bid to enforce the clampdown.
And so far not a single premises has been caught breaking the law introduced on July 1 across England.
The good news was revealed as bosses at Southampton City Council embarked on a new scheme to reduce the amount of smoking-related litter on the streets.
More than 50 specially designed litter bins for cigarette butts are being put into place across the city in coming weeks.
