AN OUTSTANDING Ofsted report for Bitterne Church of England Infant School has provided the icing on the cake for outgoing headteacher Bridget Bugg.
Mrs Bugg retired from the 180-pupil school in Peartree Avenue at the end of last term at the same time as receiving the news that the school had achieved the top grade in its inspection.
"I am delighted," she said. "It is the icing on the cake for me.
"It is down to the way the whole school works together and the commitment of all the staff."
As well as the excellent Ofsted result, Mrs Bugg, said there had been many highlights during her headship, including the school's 150th anniversary celebrations last year.
She said: "I will miss the whole school community and the pupils, because they are, of course, what makes the school."
Inspectors praised Mrs Bugg, the deputy headteacher, teachers, learning support assistants and governors for providing highly effective leadership.
