SAINTS and England football legend Alan Ball has left an estate worth £358,000 to his children.

The 1966 World Cup winner, died in April this year after collapsing at his home in Warsash when he tried to tackle a bonfire.

The estate has been left to his son Jimmy Ball, who is head coach at Winchester City football club, and his two daughters Mandy Byrne and Keely Allan.

It was the second tragedy to strike the family after his wife, of 36 years, Lesley died three years ago.

The 61-year-old, who was awarded the MBE in 2000, both played for and managed Saints in two spells, making more than 200 appearances for the club from 1976-81.

Thousands of mourners filled Winchester Cathedral to say goodbye to the youngest member of the 1966 squad at his funeral earlier this year.

A host of famous faces from the world of sport, including many of his World Cup winning teammates, paid tribute to him at the service, which was watched by millions on television.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died of natural causes.

The value of his gross estate was £799,851 but this was reduced to £358,614 after his debts and outstanding affairs were settled.
