SHE is a real life Supergran in the making.

Fearless grandmother Ann Mumford is preparing to take a daring leap out of an aeroplane at thousands of feet to become one of the most senior skydivers in Hampshire.

Ann's husband James and her sister, Vera Cox, both benefited from the care provided by Oakhaven Hospice before they died, so Ann is dedicating her jump to their memories and is fundraising for the hospice at the same time.

The plucky grandmother-of-seven, aged 74, said: "I'm not nervous at all, I'm looking forward to it - it's something I have always wanted to do and now it's come to the crunch I'm fine.

"The landing is the only thing I am a bit bothered about, but it's a tandem jump so I shall be safe!

"My friends and family are coming to watch, it's going to be great."

Ann, of Watermans Lane in Dibden Purlieu, explained why she picked Lymington's Oakhaven Hospice as the charity to benefit from her challenge.

She said: "I used to say to my husband I wanted to do a jump. He died in August 2006 from cancer and he had carers from Oakhaven visit.

"Eighteen months before my husband died, my sister died and she had been in the hospice a lot - they cared for her so tenderly.

"It's such a good cause - people are looked after so well."

Ann's husband James was 76 and her sister Vera was 86 when they passed away.

Weather permitting, Ann will be jumping out of the plane along with her friend Jon Cuffling above Netheravon, in Wiltshire, this morning.
