A DRIVER who left two of his friends to die after a car crash he had caused was today starting a five-year jail sentence.
Martyn New, 25, had offered to drive three of his pals between two pubs on a night out despite having no licence, no insurance and no MoT certificate for his heavily modified, turbo-charged car.
Jamie Hickman and Alex Harris died after they were thrown from the Vauxhall Cavalier when New lost control and crashed at twice the speed limit.
New, who escaped with minor injuries, got out and fled the scene, running past the bodies of his dying friends.
Alex, 24, who had been New's best friend for more than ten years, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jamie, 26, died from his injuries later that night.
