A HAMPSHIRE house left devastated by fire is believed to have been used as a cannabis factory.

The blaze, which broke out shortly before 2pm yesterday, destroyed the roof and most of the first floor of the semi-detached home in Horns Drove, Rownhams.

Crowds of onlookers gathered as crews from Eastleigh, Redbridge Hill, St Mary's and Beaulieu fire stations fought to keep the fire under control.

Using breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the roofspace where they are believed to have discovered a cannabis factory.

As they fought the flames, the roof collapsed, forcing the firefighters to leave the building and battle the blaze from the outside using an aerial ladder platform from Redbridge Hill fire station.

Meanwhile detectives spent more than two hours interviewing the occupants of the house before carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the quiet residential street.
