A HAMPSHIRE company has helped to turn this year's Romsey Show into the greenest event yet.

Thousands of people flock to Broadlands Park every year, leaving behind a huge clear-up operation with bins full of food containers, wrappers, drinks bottles and aluminium cans.

Normally the ten to 15 tonnes of rubbish from the show would go straight to landfill but Romsey company Ace Liftaway is looking to recycle at least 75 per cent of the waste collected.

"It is the first time this has been done, and on the whole it was a success," said office manager Hannah White.

"The response from members of the public was quite good, with people putting rubbish in the right bins to be recycled. It worked differently in various areas of the show but in one part we didn't have any mixing of materials at all."

The firm put up a series of wheelie bins as recycling stations and also provided skips for the traders to recycle their cardboard and waste packaging.

Managing director Philip Liddell said: "This is the first time this has been done at such a show and it is definitely the way forward.

"We can see every show will soon be doing this because so much rubbish is generated and it can be recycled where companies have the right facilities."
