SQUEAKY comedian Joe Pasquale has one of the most recognisable voices in showbusiness - but it's his new-found singing talent that will take centre-stage in Southampton next month.

The Price is Right presenter - whose voice is nowhere near as high-pitched in person - will star in a new production of the musical The Producers.

Pasquale, who shot to national fame after winning the reality show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! in 2004, has been taking singing and dancing lessons for his role as the accountant Leo Bloom, who hatches a scam to make the world's worst musical - the hilarious result is Springtime for Hitler.

The latest stage production of Mel Brooks' cult movie, which is on a national tour, has already received glowing reviews from critics across the country and Pasquale says it's the highlight of his career.

"I first discovered the film in my teens and when it was made into a musical a few years ago I made the point of going to see it in the West End," he said.

"It just blew me away - Mel Brooks is a genius. This is as good as it gets when it comes to musical comedies, the music is fantastic and every single line works so well."

The 46-year-old said he was looking forward to bringing the show to The Mayflower theatre.

"A lot of theatres have no atmosphere, while this place is just steeped in history and it's one of the biggest and best in the country," he said.

The Producers will run at The Mayflower from Tuesday, October 2 to Saturday, October 13. Box office: 023 8071 1811.
