A SOUTHAMPTON initiative has become so popular it will double in size.
Southampton Repair Cafe is launching at its second regular venue with a new alternate monthly event at St Denys Community Centre.
New repairers and helpers are joining some of the existing team who will be volunteering at both venues.
Repair cafes are now held from 10.30-13.00 on the first Saturday of each month (except January) at Freemantle URC church hall, on Shirley Road.
Repair Cafe organiser Angela Cotton said, “Most customers love our service as it helps them save money and reduce waste, and even when we can’t repair an item people appreciate our advice.”
Most portable item are tackled including electrical and mechanical goods, clothing and bikes. Customers can relax in the café over a cuppa and homemade cake and watch the repairers at work.
Claire Pickering from R Community who will be organising the new cafe at St Denys said: “It is great that we are able to open a new event in a different part of the city, especially for people who find travel across the city difficult.”
More volunteers are always welcome. Anyone interested should come along to one of the events or email repaircafe@transitionsouthampton.org
The first St Denys session takes place on September 15.
