The incident happened on the M27 eastbound between junction 11 for Fareham and junction 12 for Port Solent.
Lanes were closed during the incident but have since reopened.
Traffic bosses say the incident has since been cleared, but traffic is still heavy, with four mile tailbacks.
#Hampshire On the #M27 eastbound, J11 - J12 near #Cosham, our Traffic Officers have helped @Hants_fire at the scene of a vehicle fire. Closed lane now re-opened, but it'll take a little time for the 4 miles of queuing traffic to begin easing. @HantsPolRoads pic.twitter.com/ovNVbaG8BB
