THE family of a man has died two days after being attacked outside a Hampshire bar have paid tribute to him.
John Bookham, 26, was assaulted on Sunday night. He was taken to hospital but was discharged after receiving treatment for concussion.
On Tuesday he collapsed at his home in Grange Road, Gosport, and was rushed to hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
A statement released by Mr Bookham's family said: "John will be greatly missed by a lot of people. He was a gentle giant - everyone is in shock at his death."
Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of manslaughter, and a 31-year-old on suspicion of affray. Both men are from Gosport and have been released on police bail.
Further laboratory tests are being carried out to find out exactly why Mr Bookham died after a post mortem examination proved inconclusive.
Police are still urging anyone who saw the altercation, outside the Waterfront Bar on Gosport High Street at around 11.40pm, to get in touch.
They should contact 0845 045 4545 and quote Operation Enterprise or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
