A HEALTH watchdog has praised Southampton hospital bosses after cases of the superbug MRSA were dramatically reduced on city wards.
Inspectors from the Healthcare Commission swooped in a surprise visit in July and found that controlling the infection was seen as a key priority among staff.
But they also earmarked five ways progress could be bolstered at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust, which has seen cases of the potentially lethal bug plummet by 39 per cent over the past year from 92 cases to 56.
SUHT's methods of tackling superbugs and other infections were put under the spotlight when inspectors examined the cleanliness of hospital wards.
