A TEENAGER struck a dog walker with such force that he broke his jaw, Southampton Crown Court heard today.

The prosecution claimed Lewis Lambert had used a piece of wood to cause the injury but the 18-year-old maintained in his basis of plea he had only thrown one punch.

Recorder David Bartlett however ruled the difference between the two sides did not warrant a special hearing to resolve the issue.

"The fact is that he broke his jaw," he said.

Lambert, of Burgess Road, Swaythling, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on Edwin Gibson.

The violence was said to have flared when Lambert stepped into an ongoing incident between the victim and a youth who had swung a punch at him. The youth received an attendance centre order.

Lambert is also awaiting sentence for an unrelated case of using threatening words or behaviour, which he had admitted at Winchester Crown Court in August.
