A FRESH appeal for dash-cam footage and witnesses has been launched after a serious sexual assault in Southampton.
Police are investigating an incident after a 20-year-old woman was attacked in the vicinity of the grassy area between Asda, on Portland Terrace, and the NCP Car Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Yesterday women across the city were urged to be vigilant following a similar unrelated sexual assault in Middle Road, Sholing, on the same day.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Neighbourhood Policing Team continued to carry out regular patrols in the area and is undertaking ongoing work relating to public open spaces in the city during Monday.
A spokesperson said: “We would like to remind people again to follow common-sense advice and remain vigilant, especially when walking alone in the dark. Try to stick to busy, well-lit areas, stick with friends, look after each other. It’s really important to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings and remind friends and family to do the same. Be wary of people around you, if you think you might be being followed seek help or a safe place if there is one nearby.”
Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area between 4am and 6.30am on Sunday, December 16, who may have witnessed the incident or have dash-cam footage recorded in that vicinity during those hours. City councillor Dave Shields, cabinet member for health and community safety, said he will be asking for more funding to support the police.
