A GROUP of volunteers have given a children’s playground a new lease of life.
Volunteers from Morgan Sindall Construction transformed the play area at Springwell SEN School as part of the company’s Give and Gain Day.
Springwell, in Thornhill, is a primary school for children aged four to 11 with complex learning difficulties, and Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on site building a £5.3 million extension to the school for Southampton City Council.
The project includes the construction of a new two-storey block, featuring eight classrooms, new dining and sports halls, and a range of teaching and community spaces, due for completion in September.
Cliff Kinch, Morgan Sindall Construction’s are director for Fareham, said: “Our team had a fantastic day at Springwell School freshening up the school’s play area and giving it a fresh coat of paint, just in time for spring.
“It’s a real privilege to be working with Southampton City Council to deliver this project, which will create more much-needed SEN school places in Southampton.
“Our team is making great progress on the development and we are looking forward to completing work and delivering a great project for the school later this year.”
As part of their community engagement activity, the Morgan Sindall team dedicated a morning to transforming the school’s adventure play area, which has a large “ship” with a decking area and a wheel where children can act as real life pirates. The team gave the ship and decking a fresh lick of paint.
Paint and decorating equipment were donated by C. Brewer and Sons Ltd and KSD Decorating Services Ltd.
