THIS week’s Life Through a Lens takes a glimpse back at the bygone days of April 1989.
Ken Hom paid a visit to Debenhams department store and whipped up a storm for all to see.The author of more than 20 cookery books performed a culinary demonstration with his new wok.
Also that month, Patrick Moore visited the city and signed autographs for numerous adoring fans. The astronomer, prolific author and television presenter was in Southampton to promote his new book Astronomy: Selected Topics.
While all of this was happening locally - these events were taking shape on the international stage:

Britain was accused by the European Commision of failing to meet standards on drinking water.
l April 20
According to a poll, Conservative and Labour shared equal support at 41 per cent.
