A PEACE walk is to march through Southampton to highlight the importance of understanding.
Southampton Council of Faiths Annual Peace Walk will take place on July 7 from 12.15pm.
The walk will start at the Queens Fountain in East Park on Above Bar Street and journey through the city spreading the message of breaking down barriers and embracing multiculturalism.
The walk will visit Medina Mosque, Nanaksar Gurdwara, Southampton Synagogue, Friends Meeting House and Central Baptist Church.
The event is open to everyone and will be an ideal opportunity to visit people of different faiths in their communities. Last year, dozens gathered for the annual Peace Walk and walked through the city.
Organised by Southampton’s Council of Faiths it is one of a number of events aimed at bringing people of different faiths together in the name of education and mutual understanding.
Buddhist and organiser David Vane said: “Lots of people have never been in a mosque or a temple or synagogue so it’s just about showing people what they are like and what people do in them”.
Malkeat Singh added: “It’s to break down barriers of understanding, because we live in a world where there’s so much multiculturalism and different faiths and these things are opportunities for people to get a better understanding”.
The walk was set to take in a stop at the Abu Bhakr mosque for lunch, before heading off to the Vedic Sikh Temple and then to the Gurduwara Temple before ending at St Mary’s Church.
