People driving to St Mary's in Southampton for tonight's England qualifier are being advised to leave extra time.
The M27 is closed westbound between junction five Southampton and junction four M3 after an earlier van fire.
Around 150 litres of oil and fuel has been spilt across the road.
There are delays of more than two hours, it has been reported.
Traffic is being diverted and should follow the hollow square symbol.
Highways England is advising Exit at junction five and at the roundabout take the third exit onto Stoneham Lane travelling north.
At Chestnut Avenue turn right and at the next roundabout use the first exit to join Passfield Avenue.
Continue north and at the A335 junction turn left and join the M3 south to re-join M27.
If you're travelling to watch @England v Kosovo @SouthamptonFC stadium, please plan ahead due to this closure in place. @FA #ENGKOS #England #ThreeLions https://t.co/4KL7QlqmzK
