A HIT-and-run driver who injured a person in a crash in Southampton city centre has been ordered to do unpaid work.

Shakeel Ahmed was driving a Vauxhall Astra on Bernard Street when he caused a crash on November 2 last year.

The crash caused an injury to another person, Lauren Hammerton.

Ahmed, 46, failed to stop at the scene.

He also failed to report the crash to police within 24 hours.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, Ahmed was found guilty of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop and failing to report a crash.

He had pleaded not guilty to all three of the charges.

He was banned from driving for one year and made the subject of a 12 month community order, including 180 hours of unpaid work.

Ahmed, of Northbrook Road, Southampton, was also fined £180, ordered to pay court costs of £500 and a victim surcharge of £85.
