A MAN who assaulted a shop security guard while attempting to steal a bottle of alcohol has been given a suspended sentence.
Mariusz Jarzabek, 35, of Brintons Road, Southampton, committed the assault on the security guard at a Sainsbury's store in the city.
He also stole a bottle of Archers, worth £12, during the incident, on September 21.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, Jarzabek pleaded guilty to theft and assault.
He was given an eight week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, including 20 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.
He was also made the subject of an exclusion order, banning him from entering any Sainsburys store in the UK for 12 months.
