A SOUTHAMPTON man took a vehicle without consent, caused a crash and was then found to be more than three-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit.

Farrid Ahmed Rajab, 33, took a Ford Fiesta without the owner's consent during the incident on September 28.

He then caused damage to the Fiesta and another vehicle, a Mercedes, during a crash on Clausentum Road, Southampton.

When breathalysed by police, he was found to have 126 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – meaning he was three-and-a-half times the limit.

He was also driving without a licence and without insurance.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, Rajab pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, drink-driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Rajab, care of Northumberland Road, Southampton, was jailed for a total of 12 weeks.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.
